A mid-year boost for purpose-work
This week I facilitated a social and environmental impact session as part of a culture change workshop, for a major corporate. A huge household brand with social and environmental responsibility firmly and squarely in their company purpose and vision statements.
I thought, these guys will have all the answers, all the actions, I’ll struggle to share with them some new insights… they know this.
And how surprising it was.
My time may have been short with this team, but it gave me the mid year boost I needed to continue to find projects that bring these conversations (and challenges… yes, I might have asked, ‘Is that really enough?’ a few times) to light - to get people both thinking and acting more pro-socially and pro-environmentally, whatever their role.
🔊 While you can get distracted by marketing the latest product, or chasing the new target audience 5 days a week, what none of us can be distracted from is being a good citizen of the planet, and creating a positive impact. Even if your job isn’t in sustainability, there’s no reason to stop caring about fellow citizens, planet (and the short amount of time to hit Net Zero targets at the end of this decade) when you open your laptop/ step into the office.
Now (after attending Creatives For Climate’s great session on Greenwashing last week) I would never accuse this company of green-or purpose-washing (without more details)… but what is clear is that if your organisation is talking about being a good corporate citizen, it really needs to be embedded better in your company culture so every employee can be better prepared for gobby idiots like me coming in and asking them ‘is that really enough?’
And if you do want that gobby activist spirit challenging your company - HMU ! 👋
